NYPD is investigating Michelle Montgomery’s death, 39 years old, whose remains were found on Sunday morning in the basement of a popular building in Brooklyn. The agents intervened around 9:30 following a 911 call that signaled a senseless person. Upon arrival, the remains of the woman found inside a waste compactor, closed in a plastic bag. According to a source of law enforcement, the body had been dismembered. There’s no arrest at the moment.
The discovery took place in a palace of the Borinquen Plaza complex, in the Williamsburg district. Montgomery lived in another complex of popular houses, the Gowanus Houses, about six kilometers away. The condition that the body was found far from the place of residence is one of the elements to the vague of investigators, along with the movements of the woman in the hours preceding the disappearance.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that an autopsy was performed, but that the cause of death has not yet been determined: further investigations and information will be needed before a final evaluation. The investigations are coordinated by the NYPD, which has not disclosed details about the circumstances of death or the presence of suspects.
On Monday afternoon, in front of the family’s apartment, her husband Anthony Echevarria described Montgomery as “a loving mother” of their four children, 10 months, 11, 12 and 19 years old. She said she saw her last Saturday night when she went out to meet friends, and she said she had not received official explanations from the authorities. Even the younger sister, Serenity Montgomery, reported that that weekend had not received the usual update messages on sister programs; added that he had received a short FaceTime call around 22 on Saturday, interrupted almost immediately, with music in the background.
In the evening, in the lobby of the building of Borinquen Plaza there were uniform agents, while outside friends and acquaintances have set up a small memorial with candles and a red rose under a photograph of the woman. Among them, a family acquaintance remembered Montgomery as a sociable and in good mood. Several residents of the neighborhood expressed surprise in learning the identity of the victim, after the news of the discovery had spread. The investigations continue to clarify what happened and rebuild the last hours of the woman.
