Day of Memory, Mattarella “Serve rigorous action by the whole EU against anti-Semitism”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Dear Senator” Secrets “on this solemn occasion I wish to express to you, on behalf of the Republic, solidarity, esteem and affection in the face of attacks filled, at once, with vulgarity and imbecillity”. Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Memory at the Quirinale. “Volgarness and ibecillity: as the manifestations of racism and anti-Semitism have always been, however configured by the law as crimes. Volgarity and ibecillity that do not reduce its gravity: their reproposing and spreading is an index of high danger and calls for rigorous action by the authorities of the whole European Union.”.

“The system of extermination, death, depravity, which culminates in the scary death machine of Auschwitz, was the poisoned fruit of a great, ruinous lie. A lie that develops along history and of which the Shoah was the most serious and monstrous consequence. The lie that there may be inequalities, rankings, classifications of superiority and inferiority, among human beings. May life, dignity, rights, inviolable and inalienable, of each of them be placed in doubt, denied, trampled, in the turpe name of racial or biological supremacy. As Italians, we recall with anguish discrimination, persecution, deportation, the death of our Jewish fellow citizens, betrayed by racial laws desired by fascism; and many of his followers sold to the Nazi executioners, with the complicity of the monarchy, of many who thought themselves intellectual, of part of the population,” he adds.

“There is no place in the Republic for the venom of racial hatred, for the germs of discrimination, for the anti-Semitism that is still dangerous, for those who preach violence, for those who cultivate ideologies of oppression, for those who cultivate hatred – Mattarella continues. All violence is unacceptable, they are dizzying, but those against children, in every part of the world, they grieve, shake consciences and challenge them even deeper.”.
