Meloni meets Takaichi in Japan “Together we can make a difference” / Video

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “I am very pleased to be here today in Tokyo, alongside Prime Minister Takaichi. We wanted to meet in person, have the opportunity to start an even more structured dialogue, to schedule work, to set our next goals. It is a journey that starts from the beginning of a very significant year for relations between our Nations, which is the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It is an opportunity that we must fully grasp.” Thus the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in the core of the joint press point with the Japanese Prime Minister Sanea Takaichi in Tokyo. “I think that the potential of deep links between Rome and Tokyo are many and we must know how to explore them all. In these 160 years we have often been able to adapt our relationship to global changes. I am convinced that, in such a framework, many unknown but also many opportunities, Italy and Japan together can make a difference,” he added.

“We also took advantage of this opportunity to give new impetus to the implementation of the 3-year Action Plan 2024-2027, which identifies the priority areas of our cooperation. Clearly the complementarity between our production systems, our vocation to export, the quality of our industrial interactions, offer us the opportunity to increase synergies, to strengthen reciprocal investment in areas with high added value,” Meloni explained. “We have committed ourselves with the prime minister to work together to protect strategic technologies, to make the chains of value stronger and more resistant, especially on the front of critical minerals”, he then underlined the premier, observing as with the Japanese premier “we also share the fact that we are the first two women to lead their people and this for us represents a great honor but above all represents a great responsibility. Responsibility that I think we can honor by leveraging on that approach that in Japanese culture is summed up with a word that I consider very fascinating that is ‘Ganbaru’. It doesn’t just mean doing your best, it means doing more than your best, i.e. always aiming to overcome your limits, never settle for where you have arrived,” he concluded.

“This is also an opportunity to focus on the many global crises, on the many global issues on the agenda, to confirm our common commitment to arrive at a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, to consolidate the Middle East peace process, to ensure the security and stability of the Indo-Pacific. Italy and Japan – he added – share the same projection towards Africa, we said of two very similar initiatives, the Mattei Plan for Africa on the Italian side and the Ticad on the Japanese side, demonstrates a strategic capacity that Italy and Japan have always shared. I think that together we can mutually strengthen a beneficial model of cooperation for all” concluded Meloni.

TAKAICHI “ELEVATE RELAZIONI A PARTENARIATO STRATEGICO SPECIALE”

“On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations and of the visit to Japan of Giorgia, we agreed to further increase bilateral relations to a special strategic partnership aiming ever higher.” So the Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, during the joint declarations with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Tokyo. “In this new partnership we intend to strengthen bilateral cooperation in many areas, including security, economics and cultural exchanges and among people,” he added. “There are remarkable progress that we want to accelerate together,” said Takaichi, who then underlined how there will be “a collaboration also in the space field” and expressed his wishes “for the success of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games”. For the premier “with Italy, become a special strategic partner of Japan and in the relationship with Giorgia, the distance between us was further reduced. We will work more and more closely to address the many challenges of international communities.”.
