PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Luca Sinagra, patient of ISMETT, returned to the center that ten years ago restored his life with a kidney transplant. He delivered the medal and shirt worn at the World Transplant Games in Dresden, the world dedicated to transplanted athletes, held last August. Luca was only 18 years old when he faced the transplant. After the first months of recovery, he had managed to resume physical activity, but a series of infections forced him to stop, with a strong impact on health and morality. “I had come to spend whole days in bed – he says – until Dr. Buscemi made me realize that the sedentary was the real enemy. I started slowly, step by step, and I rediscovered the pleasure of moving. The sport has returned me energy and confidence”. That sharing has become a milestone. «To train and compete is not only a personal challenge – adds Luca – is a message for those who live my own experience: the transplant is not the end, but a new beginning. Sport is life, it is health, it is freedom”. Luca’s story shows how physical activity is fundamental to transplanted patients, not only for the body but also for the mind. His medal today is more than a sports award: is the symbol of resilience, hope and rebirth.
