The Presepe Revolution

The Presepe Revolution. Thus the same Giorgia Meloni has defined it and so the various Italian political commentators have defined it. It is a social video message of Christmas greetings of 1 minute and 24 seconds, in which the premier, in a white sweater and with a crib behind him (then is that of Palazzo Chigi, taken with the drone), resumes the metaphor already used of the shepherd.

More than the reflections on the chosen medium, this time count those on the content. In 2027, it will be again to vote and the leader of the main majority party, Brothers of Italy, and of the government, brings together the point and launches the long-term electoral campaign. Peace, serenity, balance, but above all roots and identity.

In the spring of 2022 I went to see his convention in Milan, then won the political elections. There was no crib, but the environment was that, in large, of an assembly by the American Republican Party (beyond Trump), and she herself claimed the ideological meaning of that scenography. The party-world came back, with a vision of the world, after the earthquake — very long and unresolved — of Tangentopoli.

The Italians offered themselves a baricentro, a structure and a leader. A permanent center of gravity would have said the great Baptism.

It has been almost three years since the victory to the policies of September and today, in my opinion — and I say it with simplicity, honesty and intellectual clarity — Giorgia Meloni is the most important political figure in Europe and is the only one to have the great chance to build and make to last a party (terms to be taken broadly) conservative modern, international, solid, that brings the right and a piece of center towards a new goal of interpretation of the world.

Fascism, post-fascism, ultra-right, sovereignism are old, outdated concepts. The House of Presepe is the firm point: not mainstream, not bowed to the politically correct Anglo-Saxon progressive mold, point-speak identity of the Italians in the marasmi of the economy and geopolitical.

In the writing of the new world order our premier is there. From the leadership of that convention passed to relational maturity that requires a premiership. It speaks languages, it is balanced, it is empathic, and never in recent decades Italy has been so respected. We help Ukraine, respect European institutions and NATO and have a powerful dialogue with Trump.

Then there are internal challenges: Welfare, Health, Youth, Women, South. But economy and employment are good. The budgetary law cannot be the tackling of all problems, but it respects the parameters that Brussels has given us and our realism increases our reputation.

Then there are the most strictly political challenges: reforms, electoral law, referendum on justice. But Italy is on the way, with its shepherd and its crib.

And now let’s enjoy this Italian Christmas, dear overseas friends.
