ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “On peace I am a little more confident than last summer, because it seems to me that, after almost 4 years of war, with the difficulties that both contenders have no more sense.” Thus the president of the House, Lorenzo Fontana, on the occasion of the traditional exchange of greetings with the parliamentary press.
“I believe that at this moment it is evident that the only interlocutor who has Russia are the US and they intend to take care of other areas of the world, so they pray for peace. On a short peace I am a little more confident and I hope that you will arrive as soon as possible”, he added.
According to Fontana “Russia has completely failed this war that was a boomerang. This war has led to the fact that, this great power we believed was before 2022, actually there is not.” While on Russian assets “serves more caution as we are in the middle of a tight negotiation. So it is necessary to go with the feet of lead, we are at a positive but delicate moment. There is also a legal question.”
For the President of the House, finally, “we must realize that the European Union is not a political subject, in the sense that it does not have a common foreign and defence policy and therefore it is normal that there is a little this ambivalence. I think it is difficult for the EU to become a political subject, so that having common defence and common foreign policy is a process, I think, still too complicated, if not even impossible. Having a cooperation even at the level of armies I think it is fundamental, but being able in short term to do something like this seems to me a particular thing.”
