ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Health is going through a phase of structural criticality related to the difficulties of public finance, but also to difficulties related to the processes of digitization, which have their ambivalence: they bring efficiency and speed, but they force citizens and operators to adapt to new standards. It is natural that doubts and uncertainties emerge, but this “must not scare us. The problem is not technology in itself, but the way we integrate it into care.” The challenge is “do not let technology become a wall, but make it a bridge”. Thus Filippo Anelli, President Fnomceo, opening the conference “Medical Science at the Service of Humanity”, organized by the National Federation of the Orders of Doctors Surgeons and Dentists, today and tomorrow in Rome. “The solution is a paradigm shift: the transition from a reductionist vision to a systemic vision. No longer the science that intervenes on the organ, but the one that takes care of the person in his entirety, also inserting psychological well-being as the primary endpoint of the process of taking into account, care and service of the person”, explains Anelli, also emphasizing the importance of information.
“To serve science means protecting it from simplifications, slogans, communication shortcuts. Technological innovation is excavating niches of distrust in the population and, as far as these positions are minority, still remain amplified by access to media and social media, generating confusion. And it’s not that fake news that generates problems. They are the half truths: that complex world that mixes art with correct information and wrong conclusions, generating doubts, distrust, sense of abandonment. Being of service means finding time and way to tell the evolution of medicine with simple but not trivial words,” he reiterates.
“The doctor – concludes Anelli – is called to serve the citizen, the person, the dignity of his knowledge and the state of the art of medical knowledge” and “care is first of all relationship, trust and presence. It is a spirit of service intended as an act of freedom that makes the doctor free to exercise with joy the profession he has chosen and the mission he has given”.
