ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The third day of Pope Leo in Turkey opened with a visit to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. A visit that follows that of Pope Francis in 2014 on the same day, on 29 November, before it was Pope Benedict in 2006 to enter the place of Muslim worship. “The Pope lived a visit to the Mosque in silence, in a spirit of recollection and listening, with deep respect for the place and faith of those who gather there in prayer,” the Holy See Press Office on Telegram refers to the visit of Leo XIV to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, also known as the Blue Mosque. Prevost made a different choice from Benedict XVI and Francis, who had gathered in silence as a prayer. Leo, in the place of worship, took off his shoes, as the Islamic rule wants.
