Violence on women, Mattarella: “Parity means education to the language of respect”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “In every area of social and private life, in homes, workplaces and urban spaces, the principle of equality is delayed to assert itself, limiting female autonomy, compromising the security of women, impoverishing the progress of society. Armed conflict theatres, where violence against women is used as an instrument of intimidation and oppression, are dramatic example of it.” The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, declares this in the day against violence on women.

“Today we see the spread of forms of violence permitted by the digital dimension, amplified by the dynamics of social networks, with effects far from virtual: humiliations, blackmails, coercions that lead, in the most serious cases, to physical and feminist aggressions. Abuses that leave deep scars in the body and mind. In this context, not indifferent is the use of language when it feeds stereotypes, it claims to justify domain relationships and unacceptable behaviors. Parity means, first of all, education to the language of respect”.

“In the 65th anniversary of the assassination of the Mirabal sisters, tortured and killed on 25 November 1960, in the Dominican Republic – today, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – their choice to oppose the dictatorship continues to inspire entire generations, reminding us that freedom and protagonism of women are collective achievements to defend and consolidate every day” concludes Mattarella.
