Chiara Tilesi, an overseas voice

At the Stenterello Prize, film festival of the Commedia d’autore in that of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence able to collect the extraordinary testimonies of all the highlights of the history and art of Florence, we interviewed Chiara Tilesi who, kindly, responded to questions for the New Yorker on the intense profession that mainly carries out in America.

Composed and solar, ask politely to wait a few minutes while greeting old friends, with her next to the beloved mother.

A way to admire the various Roman vestiges together with the works of the artists of the 15th and 16th century, remaining enchanted by the Giuditta di Donatello and the frescoes of Vasari celebrating the victories of the Medici, and still the beautiful coffered ceiling with the numerous panels that tell pieces of life of Tuscan history with the reign of Cosimo I in the subtle game of power and celebration.

Here we are, very kind lady, presented it in this spectacular salon of the 1500 thanks to a curriculum of all respect; not only director, but also filmmaker and producer. Right? We would also add activist.

That’s right, mainly in Los Angeles where I’ve been staying for many years finding myself very, very good. However, I love to point out that I am Florentine of birth and that it is always a great pleasure to return to my ‘culla’. I take the opportunity to say that in 2015 I founded my production house in America – ten years to go – We do it together where men and women are united for the female empowerment. And I love to point out that I often return to Italy by doing good work and that my heart ‘bate’ for this splendid dantesca cradle.

What are the main topics you are dealing with?

Gender equality, cinema and art.

And also social as we understood while taking it back during Stenterello.

Yes, even for We do together where people of all sex are extremely united producing more women films for women. Two years ago we received an Oscar nomination for our film Tell it like a Woman with Eva Longoria, Maria Sole Tognazzi and Margherita Buy for Italy and many more.

Are there differences between Italian and American cinemas?

They are two different systems, clearly there are differences even if both united by the same mission. In our board we have many Italian and American actresses and others from all over the world with the goal of cultural change.

Entering the feminine world, gender equality still reigns very sexism, maleism?

Not in my opinion, but according to the United Nations data, where last November’s report on violence against women, unfortunately tells us that the data has tripled both physically and sexually. Thus, more than 700 million women were killed over a year. One in three…one every 10 minutes! And so also gender disparity. In conclusion, it will take 300 years to achieve these parities and therefore 13 generations.

How does cinema contribute?

Creating culture and models. To intervene in the cultural change it is essential to tell stories of not objectiveization of the woman, but of subject women.

It has not been long since Giorgio Armani’s death dictating real styles and styles.

He was undoubtedly a great Italian designer. The thing I loved in him was his statement: The woman more than dress well and be beautiful, must be above all smart.

Your next commitments?

My book Ciro has just come out of which we will draw a film and in the coming months we will announce more. “

Greetinging me very elegant in the usual beautiful smile that gives her that exquisite state of allure, we intuit that strong halo of wrinkle and determination making Chiara Tilesi director, filmaker, producer, screenwriter and activist.
