ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The Day of National Unity and Armed Forces – which we celebrated yesterday in Ancona – recalls, in addition to the victory that ended the First World War, all those who have unfolded their commitment to the service of the Homeland and, especially, the many who have lost their lives. Witnesses are the Shrines who welcome the fallen of entire generations, taken away from life by the tragedy of wars. It also represents a warning – November 4 – to remind the new generations of every part of the world not to undertake, in order to resolve disputes, the path of violence and war, which produces deposits of pain and resentment, premise others for future conflicts.” This was said by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinale, during the ceremony of delivery of the decorations of the Italian Military Order, conferred in the year 2025.
“The international situation has assumed, unpredictable, compared to a few years behind, characters and troubling modes: we face a context of great complexity, in which the Armed Forces are required new technologies and new skills, necessary to face threats to the peaceful confrontation in respect of international law – Mattarella explained. It must be stressed the commitment made to this end by our military. There are 7700 Italian military deployed in areas also very far away, in bilateral missions, NATO, the European Union, the United Nations.”
“I also remember those who are at home: their daily commitment in training, in supervisory, logistic, support, training activities in the Major States are the structure that allows the Armed Forces to be ready, to be at the height of the expectations that the Country places in them. Operate and change to perfect: committed management combination, made possible by the framework of values that the Armed Forces possess and cultivate. Values on the fundamental principles of our Constitution as a basis – continued the head of the state -. The culture of work, the spirit of sacrifice, the sense of honor and discipline – values that are remembered by the motivations of the honors delivered during this ceremony – are the criteria of behavior that guide the path of each soldier, as well as of every citizen. To all women and men of the Armed Forces and civil defence personnel, I express my gratitude for the spirit of service with which they perform the tasks entrusted to them, with loyalty, with courage, with self-denial, with fatherly love. A proper and heard thanks goes to their relatives who, silently, often face difficulties because of the distance of their loved ones. I thank all those who help to offer their closeness to the families of our military in operations, in a real moment of mutual help and solidarity. Congratulations to the new guests. Your service to the Republic, your professionalism, your competence and your dedication have made you achieve this important recognition today. It is a recognition that honors the Armed Forces as a whole, confirming its precious presence in the defense of our constitutional values. Congratulations again and wishes!”, concluded Mattarella.
