Parliamentary Intergroup on Food, Health and Sustainability

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – On the edge of the press conference “Crescere in Salute: towards a law for the Education of Primary Prevention”, held Wednesday in the Senate of the Republic and promoted by Senator Salvo Pogliese with the collaboration of the Longaevitas APS association, it has been announced that in the coming days the parliamentary Intergroup “Alimentation, Health and Sustainability” will be born.

A historical moment that brought together the main Italian companies involved in health, food, school and sustainability in Palazzo Madama, with the aim of supporting a bill that introduces food education, healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability in Italian school programs.

“Health and sustainability have no political color – said Senator Salvo Pogliese –. The intergroup will be born to promote a transversal and constructive dialogue between parliamentary forces and civil society, supporting policies of prevention, food awareness and well-being spread throughout the national territory.”.

“Our association – said the president of Longaevitas APS, Salvo Latino – has promoted the collection of signatures for a bill that introduces the teaching of food education in Italian schools. The birth of this intergroup is a strong push and a concrete signal of attention from the institutions towards an initiative that starts from below and which can deeply affect the health of the new generations.”.

The conference was attended by Senators Salvo Sallemi and Raoul Russo, who welcomed the initiative, expressing full support for the collection of signatures and membership of the parliamentary intergroup. The Russian Senator also stressed how important and strategic the choice of submitting the proposal as a popular initiative law, pointing out that, according to the Senate Regulation, this form benefits from a preferential lane in the process of examination, ensuring greater attention and political priority to the treatment than other legislative initiatives. The event had the support of numerous organisations from the scientific, academic, agricultural and third sector, engaged in promoting health, sustainability and primary prevention.
