Where heritage, innovation and opportunities meet, UNINT is forming the new generation of global citizens. We talked to Rector Mariagrazia Russo about what makes this Italian university an interesting choice — especially for Italian-American students who wish to rediscover their roots.
UNINT is known for its international vocation. How does this translate into practice?
We have agreements with over 100 universities in more than 50 countries. Last year we ranked first in Rome for the Erasmus KA171 programme — an initiative linking European universities with extra-EU universities, favouring exchanges of students and staff.
We welcome many international students, and over 30% of our graduates participate in a mobility experience outside Italy. The global dimension is part of our DNA.
Why would an Italian-American student consider studying at UNINT?
Because you will find a welcoming and international environment, where you will never feel a stranger. But also because our formative model is strongly rooted in both theory and practice. We have over 700 partnerships with companies, embassies and institutions — including FAO — and more than 80% of our students perform an internship in Italy or abroad.
This approach reflects American academic culture, where the combination of classroom training and concrete experience is highly appreciated. And let’s not forget the position: Our campus is only four kilometers from the Colosseum. Living and studying in Rome offers a unique cultural immersion, difficult to match.
What distinguishes the academic offer of UNINT?
One aspect that really differentiates us is the interdisciplinary nature of our courses — ranging from economy to psychology of education, from languages to political science — with the possibility for all students to acquire solid language skills thanks to our School of Interpretation and Translation. We form interpreters in 10 languages — including Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Italian sign language — and our campus has professional interpretation booths. It is an exceptional educational context for students interested in international communication and diplomacy.
Another strength is our size. We are a “man-made” university, and not by chance. With a report of 1 teacher every 5 students, we can offer customized support and direct mentoring.
Do you offer programs in English for students who do not speak Italian?
Yes, we offer entirely English degree programs: Luxury, Made in Italy and Sustainability, focused on Made in Italy and the export of luxury goods, and International Relations, Global Management and Economic Diplomacy, which combines international relations, economics and diplomatic studies.
For bilingual or fluent students in Italian — or who wish to become it through our Athens Language Centre — the whole range of courses is opened, which also includes interpreter and translation and cybersecurity. Bilinguism, especially in English and Italian, is a powerful added value in today’s labour market.
