“In the face of the repercussions connected with international tensions and conflicts, the risks of terrorism, the pervasive strategies of criminal networks and mafias that increasingly take advantage of modern technological means, the problems of urban contexts – adds the Head of State – the State Police is called to refine instruments of prevention and contrast, to give effective response to safety, individual and collective instances. The sacrifice of women and men of the State Police employed in the services of escort and protection, rendered, with abnegation, in Italy and abroad, sometimes until the loss of life, for the safety of our free institutions, has seen the Republic recognize their value with the bestowal of the Body of the Gold Medal to the civil Merit. In today’s event, I wish to pay tribute to those who, wearing with honor the uniform of the State Police, have lost their lives or have been injured in fulfilling their task, directing their loved ones a affectionate thought.
