ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Today the Mattei Plan is no longer an idea, but it is an operational reality that is producing concrete results. I want to remember three numbers on all: the direct involvement of 14 African Nations, over a billion resources already committed by Italy for projects on the African continent, the synergy with the Global Gateway that is worth more than one billion and two hundred million euros. A cooperation that today focuses on 4 major strategic initiatives: the realization of the infrastructure corridor of Lobito, to connect West Africa to the eastern one, joining Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia; the development of the production chains of coffee in different African Nations; the extension to East Africa of the Blue Raman cable, the marine backbone that will connect India to the European economies, passing through the Middle East and the Mediterranean; the AI Hub for Sustainable Development in Rome, which will involve hundreds of African start-ups to apply artificial intelligence to different sectors of the Plan.” Thus the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in a video message to the European Parliament on the Mattei Plan for Africa and Global Gateway.
“We are carrying out this work because we are convinced that investing in the future of Africa means investing in the future of Europe itself. We are doing this through a method that has become a reference point at European level, as also demonstrates the presentation of a few weeks ago in Brussels of the Global Gateway Hub, the permanent platform that will coordinate European projects and investments in the African continent. The spirit that guides our action – adds – is what is inspired by Enrico Mattei: a great Italian, a visionary, who with his ‘pragmatic patriotism’ served the national interest by building bridges and cooperation with other peoples. The summit between the European Union and the African Union that will take place in Angola in the coming weeks will be the opportunity to develop this vision even more, and synchronize the strategic programs between the two continents. Italy will continue to be a bridge between Europe and Africa, providing the expertise of its enterprises, the strength of its institutions and its great tradition of dialogue. Because the future of Europe passes from a more stable, safer and more prosperous Africa. And the future of Africa passes from a Europe capable of listening, investing and building together, with humility and respect for the other. An epochal challenge in which, I am sure, the European Parliament will play a leading role.” concludes Meloni.
