ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “In the Day of Remembrance of Military and Civilian Falls in the International Missions for Peace, the Republic renews its moving thought to those who sacrificed their lives at the service of Italy and the international community, witnessing with courage and dedication the value of solidarity and commitment to peace among peoples. From the victims in Congo in 1961 to Nassiriya and to the most recent conflicts, they worked for the Homeland and for the cause of international solidarity, bringing help and hope to people oppressed by wars, poverty and injustice.” Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto. “Today the world is crossed by new and painful wounds: from the Sahel area to the conflict involving the whole Middle Eastern area, to the war that for over three years bloodslides Ukrainian soil, continue to fall innocent civilians,” adds the head of the state.
“These tragedies, nourished by hatred and opposition, are likely to expand, to reinfolate conflicts and to overwhelm entire regions, generating instability, forms of neocolonialism and new dangers for international security. Italy, faithful to its tradition of dialogue and cooperation, will continue to contribute decisively to international missions by providing its military and civil personnel in crisis areas. A commitment that reflects the values enshrined in our Constitution and the profound sense of humanity that animates our national community. The military and civilians engaged today in the conflict zones know that they can count on the support and affection of the Italians. To them, and to the memory of those who have given life for the common good, the recognition of the Republic goes,” concludes Mattarella.
