ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Government expresses “remember that the proposal to continue the confrontation on the former Ilva, even with regard to the technical aspects that emerged during the discussion, has not been accepted by trade union organizations”. “The Executive – reads in a note of Palazzo Chigi – confirms in any case the readiness to continue the deepening of all aspects and also of the most controversial reliefs, raised by the same trade union organizations to the proposals advanced by the Government for the operational management of the company in this transition phase”.
UGL METALMECCANICI “SERVE ULTERIORE IMPEGNO DA PARTE DEL GOVERNO”
The meeting ended with the Government at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers at Palazzo Chigi, during which the plan for the decarbonization of the site of Taranto was presented. “In the course of the meeting a foreign operator was announced, met last Friday. Following this meeting, a request for further clarification was made regarding the event of interest by the same operator.” Antonio Spera, National Secretary of UGL Metalmeccanici, Daniele Francescangeli, Vice National Secretary with delegation to the steel industry, and Vittoria Buccarini, member of the National Secretariat.
“It strongly concerns the situation of workers who will be placed in the integration fund. From 1 January, with the stop of cokefaction batteries, you will arrive at about 6,000 workers in supplementation cash – declare the representatives UGL -. While there is an integration into income, the situation remains extremely heavy, as it will also affect induced, procurement, transport and everything that revolves around the ex Ilva group.”.
“In addition, a future decarbonization plan with the introduction of electric ovens will entail a further employment impact, with a number of unqualified subsurfaces, without considering the 1,700 Ilva workers in Extraordinary Administration,” explains the UGL Metalmeccanici. “We call for a clear and shared plan – says Spera – that provides concrete investments, certain numbers for employment and real prospects for the revival of the former Ilva, to be built with the sense of responsibility of all the parties involved.”.
During the table it was also reiterated, at the request of the trade union organizations, that the Government remains available to evaluate a direct participation of the State in order to strengthen and guarantee the investments and stability of the corporate arrangement. Finally, it was recalled “the veto of the municipal administration of Taranto, which made it less a potential manifestation of interest for the realization of a system destined to the supply of gas”.
“We reaffirm – the UGL Metalmeccanici concludes – the need for a concrete commitment also at European level for the steel industry, recognizing the work that Italy is carrying out within the European Community for the future of the sector.”.
